Pakistani Actress Shabnam in Karachi after 14 Years

Shabnam, accompanied by her husband, renowned music composer Robin Ghosh, expressed her joy at coming back to the country that brought her fame. The couple, originally belonging to parts in former East Pakistan, had shifted to Bangladesh at the end of the 20th century.

“I’ll try to meet everyone,” the actor told the media on being asked whether she will meet her former colleagues in the country. She further expressed sorrow over the closure of Pakistani film studios.

When asked if she would consider working for Pakistani films again, Shabnam didn’t sound too sure.
On the insistence of some media personnel, Shabnam sang a line from one of the songs filmed on her.
According to a report by Dawn, Shabnam is returning to the country to be a part of a show organized by Pakistan Television to honor the couple for their contribution to Pakistani films.

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto death anniversary: Sindh government announces holiday on April 4

KARACHI: The Government of Sindh on Monday announced a holiday on April 4 across the province in order to commemorate the 33rd death anniversary of the Pakistan Peoples Party founder leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The death anniversary of the former prime minister would be observed with great respect and solemnity.

Seminars and workshops will also be held to pay tribute to Bhutto for his services.

Pir Pagara Passes away

LONDON: Chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), and spiritual leader of the ‘Hur’ jamaat passed away in London, late on Tuesday due to lung infection, Express News reported.
According to reports, his doctors in London had changed his medication and tried their best to help him recover but to no avail.
Pagara was stable for a while yesterday and was being fed through intravenous (IV) drip.
A Kingri house spokesperson said that his body is expected to be brought back to Pakistan early Thursday morning. He is expected to be buried at his ancestral shrine the same day.
Earlier the 83 year old PML-F leader was admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on November 24, where his lungs were operated upon. Shortly afterwards, due to deteriorating condition, he was put on a ventilator.

Pagara was flown to London on a special plane on January 5, with medical equipment onboard. He was accompanied by his wife, son and PML-F president Sadruddin Rashdi, and chief khalifa of the Hur jamaat Qadir Bux Mangrio.
MQM condoles
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain condoled the death of Pir Pagara.
Hussain expressed his condolences for Pir Pagara’s death with his children, family, Khalifas and followers as well as the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F).
In a statement issued from London, the MQM chief said that Pagara’s death was a huge tragedy and loss for the country. He added that the vacuum his death had created in politics can never be filled.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN 
Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon, expressed a deep sense of grief over the sad demise of Pir Pagara.
In a condolence message to his son, Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi, Ambassador Haroon condoled with the bereaved family.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy and heritage live on,” the message said.

KARACHI: On a lazy Sunday, a woman was woken up by the telephone ringing at the ungodly hour of 7am.
Who could it be at this hour, she pondered as she drowsily reached for the handset. To her surprise, a husky but alluring voice – one which has been clogging the airwaves these days – was on the other end, speaking in Urdu.
“Assalam-o-Alaikum. This is Imran Khan speaking. How are you? I am coming to your city to bring everyone together on December 25 at Mazar-e-Quaid for a peace rally. I hope that you can break all the shackles and take part because at this rally we need to make the beginnings of a new Pakistan. I will be waiting. Thank you.”
This recorded voice message by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan has been waking up people across the city – much to their delight it appears.
“I was shocked to hear him,” said Saba Abid, who received the message on Sunday morning. “In the beginning, I couldn’t understand why he was calling me. I think it’s a creative way to advertise, except for the part of waking up people early in the morning.”
It seems to have worked, however, as Ariba, a teenage resident of DHA, was sufficiently convinced. “Listening to his voice message was amazing,” she gushed. “I am definitely going to his jalsa with all my friends.”
This marketing strategy was first used to invite people in Lahore before the jalsa on October 30 and the party felt it produced successful results in mobilising thousands of people. “In Karachi we decided to do the same thing because miscreants are tearing down our posters and banners,” said the party’s head in Sindh, Naeem-ul Haq. “Through Imran Khan’s personalised message, we hope to mobilise our supporters.”
The phone campaign has been going on for a week. “Around 300,000 people will be receiving the recorded messages on their PTCL landlines,” explained SM Ilyas at the PTI Karachi office. This is about half of the total number of subscribers in the city.
A Lahore company is involved in the social marketing, and anyone can call the number, 042-38375454, to hear the message as well.
Haseeb Anwar, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, was so excited to hear his favourite politician’s voice, he started talking back until he realised it was a recorded message. He’ll just have to wait till Christmas to hear him live.

The Union Ministry for Rural Development is in talks to rope in Kumar to endorse the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, a ministry official said. Kumar confirmed it and said he will accept the offer. "It will be an honour for me to be associated with the government scheme," he told ET.

Veena Malik claims Rs 10 crores for `nude` photo shoot

Mumbai: Pakistani model and actress Veena Malik sought guidance from her mentor Mahesh Bhatt to handle the alleged “nude photo shoot” controversy that has taken her nation by storm.

Bhatt asked her to slap a legal notice to the “so-called” offenders who have maligned her image by showing her nude on the cover of their magazine, FHM. Veena has sent a legal notice to Maxposure Corporate Media (India) Private Limited, Chief Editor, FHM Magazine Kabeer Sharma and photographer Vishal Saxena.

Veena has asked the reprobates to stop publication and circulation of the copies of the magazine in question, withdraw issues that are in circulation and pay her a whopping Rs 10 crores as compensation for trying to damage her reputation within a time frame of 24 hours from the receipt of the notice.

On being quizzed by reporters, Mahesh Bhatt said, “Let the cops now decide who is lying.”

Veena has certainly maintained her stand on the controversy and has categorically denied having posed nude for the magazine. But back home, her father seems to be mighty miffed with her and reportedly has asked authorities to take stringent action against her.

Only time will tell if the Pakistani actress is indeed innocent or not!

Nato attacks Pakistan army, Pakistan cuts off U.S. supply lines

NATO coalition aircraft forces have allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops in one of the country’s deadliest friendly fire incidents in almost a decade. The attack occurred in the Baizai area of Mohmand at two separate Pakistani checkpoints around 2 a.m. on Saturday. In a press conference this morning, a NATO spokesman said it was likely coalition airstrikes caused the casualties.

Changing Of Ghilaf-e- Kaaba

Kiswah is the cloth that covers the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is draped annually on the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day pilgrims leave for the plains of Mount Arafat during the Hajj.^[1] The term kiswah is Arabic for 'pall' (viz., the cloth that is draped over a casket) and is a cognate of the Hebrew word kisui.

Current: Every year the old Kiswa is removed, cut into small pieces and gifted to certain individuals, visiting foreign Muslim dignitaries and organizations. Some of them sell their share as souvenirs of the Hajj. In earlier times, Umar bin al-Khattabwould cut it into pieces and distribute them among pilgrims who used them as shelter from the heat of Mecca. The present cost of making the kiswa amounts to SR 17,000,000. The cover is 658m² and is made of 670kg of silk. The embroidery contains 15kg of gold threads. It consists of 47 pieces of cloth and each piece is 14m long and 101cm wide. The kiswa is wrapped around the Kaaba and fixed to the ground with copper rings. The manually designed embroidery of the Quranic verses are slowly being aided by computers, thus increasing the speed of finishing.^[2]
