Changing Of Ghilaf-e- Kaaba

Kiswah is the cloth that covers the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is draped annually on the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day pilgrims leave for the plains of Mount Arafat during the Hajj.[1] The term kiswah is Arabic for 'pall' (viz., the cloth that is draped over a casket) and is a cognate of the Hebrew word kisui.
Kiswa Factory

Current: Every year the old Kiswa is removed, cut into small pieces and gifted to certain individuals, visiting foreign Muslim dignitaries and organizations. Some of them sell their share as souvenirs of the Hajj. In earlier times, Umar bin al-Khattabwould cut it into pieces and distribute them among pilgrims who used them as shelter from the heat of Mecca. The present cost of making the kiswa amounts to SR 17,000,000. The cover is 658m2 and is made of 670kg of silk. The embroidery contains 15kg of gold threads. It consists of 47 pieces of cloth and each piece is 14m long and 101cm wide. The kiswa is wrapped around the Kaaba and fixed to the ground with copper rings. The manually designed embroidery of the Quranic verses are slowly being aided by computers, thus increasing the speed of finishing.[2]

SRK

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who turned 46 today, says it is demeaning to compare the films of two actors.

Shah Rukh, 46, was responding to a query on whether the box-office collections of his magnum opus RA.One had surpassed that of Salman Khan's Bodyguard and Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots.

"It is demeaning if we compare every film of every actor. It is wrong to compare. I don't believe in comparisons. Every actor has a different body of work...all this is unfair," he told reporters in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Khan asserted that he was the original "Baadshah of Bollywood" and nobody can change that.

The actor said he was happy with the success of RA.One, which released this Diwali and getting mixed reviews.

"I am happy with the success of RA.One. I have been told by my business partners we did a good business. I am happy that people are talking about the film be it a good or bad way," he said.

Asked about his birthday wish, Shah Rukh, who was gifted a huge card by his daughter Suhana, said, "All I wish is that my children stay healthy and make a name for themselves."

A host of B-town celebrities are expected to attend a party thrown to celebrate the actor's birthday here this evening.
